Recover Your Network Icon (Vista)

So recently, my network icon was missing (it’s that little computer icon in your taskbar’s tray). I tried a few ways to recover it like right clicking on my taskbar going to ‘Notification Area’ and checking ‘Network’, but it was not clickable. So I had to go research on Google, still other people’s methods did not work. I had to mess around with my computer a bit and I found a solution, that should work pretty well for you guys.

So if this happens to you, this is what you should do:
1) Go to Start – Run
2) Search ‘regedit’
3) Go to Edit – Find or CTRL+F
4) Search search the term ‘iconstream’
5) Delete these two registry files ‘IconStreams’ and ‘PastIconsStream’
6) Restart your PC
7) The network icon should reappear, if it doesn’t right click on your taskbar, go to ‘Notification Area’ and now you will have the option to check the ‘Network’ box.

Hope this will help solve your problems. It had happened to me several time and this same method helped me out a bunch.
